Where No Señor Hans ...

Patagonia, the final frontier.

These are the voyages of Señor Hans, his continuing mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out (and ridicule) new life and new civilisations.

To boldly go where no Señor Hans has gone before ...

(start tune)...

SEÑOR´S LOG; STARDAY 154

An anomaly has turned up on the scanners ... a strange mountain called ´Monte Fitzroy´. Investigation was required. An away team was assembled, consisting of Captain Señor Hans, Lieutenant Commander Camping Gear and Ensign Provisions, and beamed down to the planet. Señor Spock was left in command of the ship.

It soon became clear why we were not able to beam in closer to the mountain. The constant gale force winds in this strange place interfere heavily with the transporter, not to mention with regular bipedal movement.

After a morning exploration along the raging Rio Electrico, Lt.Com. Camping Gear and Ens. Provisions were ordered to set up camp, while, with the help of a local guide named ´walking stick´, the captain decided to attack the mountain from the north. The going was tough on the steep slopes, the wind playing with me like a Swedish woman, but the northern glacier was reached without harm, where the mountain appeared in its freaky glory. However, the constant storm about its peak kept producing the whirling clouds that obscured the summit most of the time. Additional investigation was required.

The following morning a short side exploration up the Rio Electrico revealed a rainbow lit valley, where the sun shone on the windswept water of the river. But the eastern flank of the mountain beckoned. The going was tough towards the next encampment, through forests and river rubble. Another windy side trip, climbing huge boulders towards a glacial lake could have proven painful, if not for the lightning-quick assistance of our local guide.

The next morning, before light, the captain struck out for the final ascent, alone this time. Although not a particularly steep climb, the previous days had taken its toll, and the climb did not prove easy. The winds up toward the eastern flanks of Fitzroy were relentless and above all, bitterly cold. But when the sun rose and shone its orange light on Fitzroy and its companions, all the pain and cold were forgotten. The sight was breath-taking.

Again, the mountain did not fully reveal itself, looking almost like a smoking volcano, but all required data was collected. This was a mountain to be respected and to be left further alone. There was more exploring to do in this land of Patagonia. It took the rest of the day to reach the beamup location again, regrettably losing Ensign Provisions on the way. But hey, what are ensigns for, right ?

Capt. Señor Hans - End of log entry

SEÑOR`S PERSONAL LOG

Witnessing the immeasurable forces of nature up close, the silent mountains, glaciars and everflowing raging rivers, is a humbling experience every time. And as most would agree, Señor Hans cannot have enough of these ...

I am sorry, Admiral Squaw, I must disobey that order. For now, at least ;-)

And I regret that there are no hot springs around here, only really really cold ones. Yes, I have asked my local guide as well. (You cannot imagine to what you start talking to after 5 months traveling alone!)
